Dr. Jeff Bauer

jeffbauer.jpgDr. Jeff Bauer is currently an Associate Professor in the Kinesiology Department and Associate Director of the Center for Obesity Research and Education (CORE) at SUNY Cortland. He graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science from the Pennsylvania State University then spent 9 years working for the Aerospace division of General Electric as a systems analyst during which time he completed his M.S. in Exercise Science at the University of Westchester, in Westchester Pennsylvania. He then returned to Penn State to earning his Ph.D. in Exercise Science in 1994 while specializing in the area of Biomechanics. His first academic position was that of Assistant Professor at the University of Florida where he established and was named director of the first Biomechanics Laboratory at UF. During his tenure at Florida he developed both the undergraduate and graduate program in Biomechanics and acted as advisor to all M.S. and Ph.D. students studying Biomechanics at UF during his tenure. In the Fall of 2000 he accepted a position at SUNY Cortland where he is co-director of their Biomechanics Laboratory while teaching Biomechanics and a variety of technology related courses to undergrad and graduate students.

Dr. Bauer has always been interested in sport performance and was a varsity tennis player for Penn State during his undergraduate days and has worked closely with the United States Tennis association through the years. His research has always focused on performance improvement and injury prevention in both sport and daily life activities. Those interests have led his research into the areas of childhood obesity and injury prevention based on sound biomechanical evaluation of recreational and elite athletes. Currently he is pursuing work in the areas of passive orthopedic interventions for youth and studying the long term effects of knee injuries on adults.

Dr. Bauer has recently co-authored a first of its kind e-text book for undergraduate Biomechanics courses; Dynamic Biomechanics (http://dartfish.e-publishingplatform.com) is a reviewer for scientific journals such as Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise and the Journal of Strength and Condition Research. He has recently published papers in Perceptual and Motor Skills and The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and has given presentations at the state, national, and international level.
