The SUNY Youth Sports Institute recommends that all youth sports programs
perform a background screening on their coaches. For more information click here.
A generation ago we spent far more time playing outside than watching tv. While my parents look back that their childhood summers and remember playing in the neighboorhood, my children will likely look back and remember what was on TV at 3PM.
According to a recent study, youth outdoor activity is now at record low levels. The study released by the Outdoor Foundation earlier this year found that while American adults are becoming increasingly more likely to get outdoors and exercise, American youths are not. The report stated that American adults actively participating in outdoor sports had risen to nearly 50%, while the percentage of American youths doing the same has dropped 11%. According to the executive director of the Outdoor Foundation, “children in America are suffering from the effects of obesity and inactivity at unprecedented levels.”
